TRAVEL GIFTS TO BRING THE WORLD HOME. HANDMADE IN CANADA.

Travel Journal: Sacha & Co.

Today's Travel Journal features Sacha & Co, a fellow Brit here in Canada! I loved hearing about Sacha's work, how she got started, and life in the Okanagan. She's also renovating her home on a budget, keep reading to find out what she's up to, and make sure to check out those windows in her dining room!

Oh, and as an added bonus, Sacha has very kindly offered to give you lovely readers a discount code to use in her store! Use the code TAMUCHLY10 to get 10% off your next order!

Tell us about your journey with Sacha & Co. I’d love to hear a bit about the story behind it, and how you got started?
Sacha & Co started as a hobby, refinishing furniture and actually as an escape from anxiety and depression that I was battling at the time.  I became obsessed with chalk paint and all things home decor that I quickly ran out of room in my house for all the pieces I'd created. Before my husband completely lost his sense of humour about this newfound creativity, I applied and was accepted to a new local vintage market.  That was 5 years ago and the journey has been so much fun from there. I no longer finish furniture (except for my own home) and now I focus on creating pieces that people love to give and receive.

What inspires you about travel, either locally or abroad, and how do you incorporate that into your work?
My husband and I both have a background as airline pilots. Travelling has always been in our blood. I love how travel really lets you experience life through someone else's eyes, whether its a local sharing a secret restaurant or a fellow explorer sharing that must-see place.  I'm forever taking pictures of things we see that inspire me and I hope to be able to use in my work.

What does a typical work day look like for you?
Each day is completely different depending on the orders that have come in. Some days we focus solely on our glassware, etching them with personalized designs and messages. Other days are taken up with designing and producing luggage tags or engraving chopping boards. The consistent part of each workday starts with 30 minutes of quiet time at my kitchen table, planning the workflow for the day, followed by an hour or 2 of design time at the computer.

Where’s your special place (or places)? The Country or place with happy memories, that means the most to you.
There are so many to choose from. My favourite city is Edinburgh (followed closely by London and Washington DC). My favourite country is Canada, having moved here 10 years ago from the UK; there's so much to see in this country that is beautiful. Some of my favourites so far are Banff, Vancouver Island and of course the gorgeous Okanagan Valley (after all who wouldn't love beautiful scenery, lakes AND 300+ local wineries).

Beautiful scenery and wineries - a girl after my own heart! What would your dream home look like, and where in the World would it be?
I'm lucky enough to live in my dream home in the Okanagan Valley. In reality, its a dream view right now as the house has so much work needing done that it will be a while before it falls into the dream category. It's a vacation spot right on my doorstep and we are very blessed to be here.

What a beautiful place to live! I’d love to hear more about your home renovations! Can you tell us a bit about what projects you’re tackling and how it’s going?
The house hasn't had any major work done on it in 30 years. It's a complete fixer-upper which is great and we are slowly tackling the reno's ourselves (on a tight budget). I recently finished our dining room, which is my favourite room in the house, for under $500. Next up will be the kitchen; refacing the 70's cupboards, building a kitchen island and adding new counters. As well as finishing up our vacation rental suite reno so that others can come and appreciate the beauty around us.
